100 years ago: City planning to buy more trash cans

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 26, 1910: “‘The next campaign we want to wage,’ said Mr. George Barker today, ‘is against the practice of throwing waste paper in the streets and carelessly littering up the public highway with waste that can just as easily be put in receptacles for that purpose.’ She was representing the Civic League which plans an effort to buy more trash cans to help keep the city neater.”
