March, vigil part of Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night, an annual international event that raises awareness about sexual assault and abuse, will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at South Park, just south of downtown.

The event will include children’s activities, live music, speakers, a march on Massachusetts Street and a candlelight vigil at Watson Park, Sixth and Kentucky streets.

The speakers will begin at 6 p.m. and will include Curt and Christie Brungardt, the parents of Jana Mackey. Mackey was a Kansas University law student from Hays who was killed by an ex-boyfriend in July 2008. The march will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the candlelight vigil will begin at 8 p.m.
