Bras Across the Kaw set for Friday

More than 800 bras will be strung across the Kansas River bridge to raise awareness about breast cancer.

At 2 p.m. Friday, a Lawrence radio station, Health Care Access Clinic employees and community volunteers will begin assembling the bras. The “Bras Across the Kaw” campaign aims to honor those who have lost the battle with breast cancer, give hope to those still fighting and encourage early detection for those who may not know they have the disease. Many bras have personal messages on them that honor or remember a loved one.

Bras can be dropped off the Health Care Access clinic, 1920 Moodie Road.

There also will be a women’s health fair “You Deserve It” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the clinic. It will be offering free breast exams to uninsured people and free health information. There will be some pampering activities and prizes.
