Garry Gribble’s Running Sports, which offers running shoes and accessories, is opening a store in downtown Lawrence.

The store at 839 Mass. is set to open the first week of June.

The location will be the fourth for Garry Gribble, who said he was drawn to Lawrence by its active running community, strong economic demographics and relatively large trade area.

Two of his children also attended Kansas University, and he said he looks forward to providing sales, service and support for runners of all skill levels.

“I’ve already got my oar in the water,” he said, noting that he would work to help support runners’ groups and help sponsor events.

Gribble’s nearest store is at 119th and Quivira in Overland Park, a shop just named the Best Running Store in the Midwest by Runner’s World magazine. He also has a store at Ward Parkway Center in Kansas City, Mo.; and another in Independence, Mo.
