Wichita ? A California man who admitted swindling his parents and friends in Kansas has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison.

David Burkholder received 46 months in prison Friday for falsely claiming he needed money for his business and to pay entertainer Barbra Streisand.

Burkholder, 55, of San Francisco, pleaded guilty in September to 24 counts of wire fraud. In his plea deal, Burkholder admitted that from 2003 through 2005 he falsely persuaded his parents, John and Donna Burkholder of McPherson, to raise about $548,000 from their friends and church acquaintances.

Prosecutors say Burkholder falsely claimed he owed Streisand more than $100,000 to end a contract between her and his firm. He also falsely claimed he needed money after one of his business partners was killed in a tsunami, among other tales.
