Haskell to kick off community exercise program

Haskell Indian Nations University will launch a community exercise program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Haskell Stadium.

This is the second year for the Healthier Haskell program, which aims to bring together the local community to improve overall health and wellness. Haskell will host activities and events on campus using a holistic approach to wellness. These activities include classes, seminars and activities for all ages, interests and fitness levels.

On Tuesday, the winners of last year’s program will be recognized. Participants also can choose between walking 1 mile or running about 2 miles around the campus.

The focal point of the Healthier Haskell initiative is a 10-month program to walk around the Indian Country. Collectively, the community will log in miles and virtually visit Indian nations across the United States.

The event and fitness program is free and open to the public. Last year, 1,700 people participated in the program, and they collectively walked around the world, or 24,901 miles.
