Iowa Street traffic may be reopened sooner than anticipated

Work to fully reopen a portion of Iowa Street following a waterline break is proceeding faster than expected, city leaders said.

The stretch of Iowa Street near Yale Road is expected to be fully open to traffic by this afternoon. Originally, the city had estimated the road may not be entirely open until Saturday.

Crews are working in the area after a 1950s-era water line broke under the street on Wednesday. Lisa Patterson, a city spokeswoman, said water service was restored to the area about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

But crews on Thursday continued to work on repairing the pavement of the road. That work has one of the northbound lanes on Iowa Street closed near the intersection.
