Planning chairman to discuss transportation

Grant Eichhorn, chairman of the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission, is scheduled to take questions as part of an online chat at ljworld.com at 1:30 p.m. today.

The Planning Commission has been drafting a new long-range transportation plan for Lawrence and the county. As part of that process, Eichhorn has said he wants to make one last effort to compromise with Haskell Indian Nations University on plans to run the South Lawrence Trafficway through the Baker Wetlands. Eichhorn has said he’d be open to moving the trafficway south of the Wakarusa River, if Haskell provided the necessary right of way to expand the existing 31st Street.
