KU Hospital ranked fifth nationally
In the three years UHC has been creating this ranking, KU has moved up from 33rd
The University HealthSystem Consortium has named Kansas University Hospital the fifth-best academic medical center in the country, in terms of quality and safety.
“This is a tribute to the teamwork of physicians, nurses, and other health care staff who focused on how to deliver the best care possible to the patient. This kind of recognition only comes when the commitment to deliver the highest level of patient care is the priority of everyone at the hospital,” KU Hospital CEO Bob Page said in a statement.
In the three years UHC has been creating this ranking, KU has moved up from 33rd. A total of 83 hospitals were surveyed for the rankings. Other top five hospitals include Brigham and Women’s Hospital, affiliated with Harvard University, the Mayo Clinic, Methodist Hospital-Clarian Health, affiliated with Indiana University, and Rush University Medical Center.
“While academic medical centers face unprecedented changes, their leaders and employees continue to meet new challenges with a sustained passion for improving excellence in patient care and operational efficiency,” said UHC CEO Irene Cumming, the former CEO of KU Hospital.
Cumming left the hospital earlier this year after a series of disagreements about a KU School of Medicine proposal to also affiliate with St. Luke’s Hospital.
