Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 17, 1907: “There are meetings about how young people at the university can be better fed at lower cost and there is quite a bit of sentiment for a dining hall to feed the students. It would take a large cafe, but a number of good people are interested and say the plan has worked at a number of other schools. This is not to be seen as a war against existing eating clubs. : Kathryn Saile has been awarded the prize for the pupil in county schools who had the highest grades the past year. It is quite an honor for a 14-year-old and she is to be commended.”
