Sparkly makeup isn’t quite part of her everyday beauty routine – but it’s pretty close. The supermodel and “Project Runway” star says she wears at least a bit of glitter several times a week, whether she’s going shopping or to a party.

“It’s just fun. Why not wear it?”

The key is to apply the right amount of sparkle to match the occasion. It would be one layer for a typical day, or a half-dozen layers for a photo shoot, she told the AP at a preview of Victoria Secret Beauty’s holiday collection. On this day, she wore a pink lipstick with gold flecks that will be available in November.

The lipstick shade is called Heidi because it matches her naturally pink lips. “I wanted my color, but I wanted sparkle,” she said.

While a professional makeup artist is usually on hand when she’s working, Klum says there are plenty of times when she does her own. Some of her tips:

¢ Use a light-colored eye shadow over the entire lid, all the way up to the brow line. It lengthens the canvas and makes eyes appear wide and bright.

Then outline the eye at the edge of the lash line with a dark shade, using a precise fine brush. That same darker color can also be applied to the crease of the lid, but this time using a fluffy brush and a very light touch.

¢ Wear plum-colored eye makeup. No matter what your eye color, the plum will make it appear more intense. In Klum’s case, she says the deep purple shade brings out the green.

¢ Choose colors that can be used for day or night. Instead of starting out with a very dark shade lipstick, for example, use a lighter version in the same family. Put on one layer in the morning and then at night ramp up the intensity with a few extra layers.

“Pile on the layers instead of going crazy with just one stroke,” Klum advises.

¢ Use a lip gloss that has a bit of flavor. Some lip gloss always seems to end up in your mouth, why subject yourself to an unpleasant taste?
