Free State bowlers sweep Oskaloosa

? Free State High’s boys and girls bowling teams defeated Oskaloosa High on Friday.

The boys totaled 2,096 pins to Oskie’s 1,443. The girls won, 1,615 pins to 1,375.

Robert Wagner had a 562 series (187 average) to lead the Firebird boys. Joel Hall had a 551 series, followed by Werner Nelson (517), Tyler Kring (466), Nick Kennedy (445) and Kenny Altman (411).

The girls were led by Ashleigh Armstrong, who had a 454 series (151 average). Melissa Burnside had a 444 series, followed by Becky Gladman (364), Weatherly Butler (353), Jayme Schoneweis (314) and Amelia Firns-Hubert (287).

The FSHS boys team improved to 8-4; the girls moved to 4-8.

“It wasn’t one of our strongest performances,” Free State coach Anita Carlson said. “We fought hard for our spares.”
