Spread The News PR grabs WSJ’s Page One
Todd Brabender made the big time, and he didn’t even need to send out a press release – about himself, anyway.
Brabender, a 41-year-old Lawrence resident, landed himself and his public-relations firm as the subject of a Page One feature story Wednesday in The Wall Street Journal. The hook: how his Lawrence-based operation, Spread The News PR, successfully focuses on informing the media about “practical yet peculiar” consumer products.
Among them: the Fish ‘n Flush toilet fish tank, and the SummerSled, which slides over grass.
“It’s exciting but scary to wake up and see yourself on the front page of the top business newspaper in the world,” Brabender said. “It’s fun, but daunting.”
Brabender says his selective nature with clients brought unique products to his doorstep. The Journal reported that the approach also brought in $300,000 in fees for Brabender during this year alone.
“I don’t work with a client that has a product similar to something else on the market,” he said.
