KU researcher receives disability-study grant

Glen White, director of the Research and Training Center on Independent Living at Kansas University, has received a $3.25 million, five-year grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research to help people with disabilities participate more fully in the community.

White will lead a team that includes researchers from Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Montana, Cornell University, and the Oregon Health and Sciences University.

The research will measure the barriers people with disabilities face in communities. It will identify barriers and determine the greater and lesser obstacles to getting out and participating in the community. The research also will identify whom the disabled rely on for assistance. And it will delve into other related areas.
