Fort Leavenworth takes down Web site

Officials at Fort Leavenworth have taken down a Web site that featured oral history interviews with officers and soldiers returning from Iraq, following a Journal-World story about the site.

“The site was taken down last Thursday,” said Janet Wray, a spokeswoman for the fort. “What they’re doing is they’re reviewing it, just in case there are any security violations. They know there’s nothing classified there. But they were just a little concerned because people are being so frank, they wanted to be double-sure.”

Removal of the site, which included interviews of some officers and soldiers speaking frankly about carnage at the battle of Fallujah, comes after U.S. Marines in Iraq were accused of murdering civilians in Haditha, Iraq.

The site – accessible online through the Combined Arms Research Library – should be available again next week, Wray said.
