Royals sign reliever Riske

Pitchers Day, Duckworth accept deals

? The Kansas City Royals have signed relief pitcher David Riske to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.

Riske, 30, a right-hander, has an 18-14 career record with 16 saves and a 3.59 earned-run average in 328 games. He has played for the Indians, Red Sox and White Sox.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said Riske had been one of the most consistent relief pitchers in the game over the last four years.

The Royals also signed right-handed pitchers Zach Day and Brandon Duckworth to minor-league contracts, with invitations to spring training.

Day had surgery this year for a partial tear in his rotator cuff. He has a 21-27 career record with the Expos, Nationals and Rockies.

Duckworth was 1-5 with a 6.11 ERA with the Royals in 2006. He had surgery in August to remove bone chips in his elbow.
