Jurors deliberate for 4th day without verdict

? Jurors in the federal fraud trial of former Westar Energy Inc. chief executive officer David Wittig and his chief lieutenant finished their fourth full day of deliberations Wednesday without reaching a verdict.

Wittig and former chief strategy officer Douglas Lake are facing 40 counts each of conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering and circumventing internal controls, part of what prosecutors say was a complex series of schemes aimed at defrauding the Topeka-based utility to bulk up their compensation.

Both men deny the charges.

This is their second trial. Their first ended in mistrial in December after jurors were unable to reach a consensus on more than half the charges.
