Parking prohibited on west-side street

Neighbors along Lawrence Avenue between Bob Billings Parkway and Applegate Court were successful in convincing city commissioners to prohibit parking on their street.

About a dozen neighbors showed up at the meeting to tell commissioners that parking on the street made it too difficult and dangerous for cars to get through the narrow street.

Commissioners unanimously agreed to prohibit parking on the west side of Lawrence Avenue from 150 feet north of Bob Billings Parkway to Applegate Court. Commissioners approved the request despite a negative recommendation from the Traffic Safety Commission. Traffic safety commissioners recommended that the request be denied because they were concerned where the people would park, and that removing the parking would increase speeds on the street.

City commissioners said the residents had enough room to park in their driveways.
