Lawrence bowler Glass in eighth after first day

? Lawrence’s Bob Glass was in eighth place Monday after the first day of qualifying for the PBA Senior U.S. Open at Sunnybrook Lanes.

Glass had a six-game pinfall total of 1,283.

Greg Smith, of Fort Wayne, Ind., leads at 1,351. It was Smith’s PBA Senior Tour debut.

He’s an amateur who has not bowled in any PBA event in 20 years.

Qualifying continues today and Wednesday. All players will bowl 18 games over three days before a cut is made to the top fourth of the field.

Those players will bowl an additional nine games Thursday, after which the top 24 will advance to round-robin match play.

The top four based on total pinfall will advance to Friday’s stepladder finals.
