KU gear not available in a store near you

Kansas University officially has entered the adidas era, but if fans want to join the fun, they’ll have to hold their horses for a little while longer.

KU’s agreement with its former supplier, Nike, expired June 30, meaning the swooshes are gone, and the adidas stripes officially are in. But KU associate athletics director Jim Marchiony said Kansas adidas apparel wasn’t expected to hit stores until mid-August. The anticipated football uniforms aren’t in yet, either, so no date to unveil them has been established.

KU’s new apparel deal – along with the university’s decision to have a uniform blue color for everything KU-related – forced retirement of the navy-blue Nike football uniforms after just three seasons. The new uniforms will be a lighter blue, and the helmet will feature a gray facemask instead of navy.

Currently, the KU athletics department and adidas are hammering out the final details on the red hue that will be on all the KU apparel.

“We’re trying to make sure that the red we use matches as closely as possible with the red that the university has selected,” Marchiony said. “I don’t think it’s delayed anything as of yet.”

KU is considering holding a ceremony or press conference to introduce the new football gear.
