Jack Bashaw, Kansas City, Mo.

? Services for Col. Jack Bashaw, 78, Leawood, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Bashaw died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at his home.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and as a doctor in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. He retired as a colonel. He served as Arizona Planned Parenthood medical director for more than five years.

Mr. Bashaw worked with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 15 years and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1988. He moved in the 1990s to Baldwin, where he was a sculptor and metalsmith.

Mr. Bashaw’s first wife, Charlotte, died in 1994. He married Betty Barker. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Eric, Phoenix; a daughter, Ann Papagalos, Phoenix; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Austenfeld and Susan Paolo, both of suburban Kansas City; a sister, Freddie Utsman, Texas; four grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the donor’s choice.
