Chihuahua dies after attack by terrier

A Chihuahua died after being attacked by a neighbor’s Jack Russell terrier during the weekend in the 2700 block of Maverick Lane, according to police.

The five-pound Chihuahua, “Koko,” was in its front yard about 2:15 p.m. Sunday when the terrier came across the street and attacked it, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman. When the Chihuahua’s 79-year-old owner tried to separate the two, a Pomeranian belonging to the owner of the terrier tried to bite him, Ward said. A family member said the man fell down while trying to separate the dogs.

Officers took both the terrier and the Pomeranian into custody and cited the dogs’ owner, Ward said.
