What are the advantages and disadvantages of being home schooled?

Adrian Peña, eighth-grader, South Junior High School

“A disadvantage is that you don’t have as many friends as you do if you go to public school.”

Corina Deshazer, seventh-grader, SJHS

“There’s not as many people to interact with, and there’s not as much gossip. You also don’t have to worry about switching classes.”

Alyssa Myers, seventh-grader, SJHS

“At home school you get to be with your family more. You get individual attention at home, but you don’t get to socialize with as many people at school dances or social events.”

Kendall Riley, eighth-grader, SJHS

“An advantage is getting one-on-one help. A disadvantage is not being in an atmosphere with all of your friends.”

Paula Stamm, eighth-grader, SJHS

“A disadvantage is not developing social skills, and an advantage is that you get more attention and learn at your own pace.”

Sami Milk, eighth-grader, SJHS

“A disadvantage is a lack of interaction. An advantage is you can ask questions about anything without being embarrassed.”
