Ruth J. Evans Morehead

Mrs. Morehead died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at her home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Leavenworth, Wash., the daughter of Jim and Ruth Miller Evans. She grew up on the family apple orchard. She graduated from Peshastin High School in 1944. She also attended Cornish Art School in Seattle.

Mrs. Morehead worked her way up from glitter application to art director at a major greeting card company. She started her own company in 1975, working on illustrations, greeting cards, calendars and gifts. Her sons joined her in 1985 and helped create more than 3,000 illustrations.

She married William DeWitt Morehead in 1946. He died earlier.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Morehead, Fairfield, Iowa, and Bill Morehead, Overbrook; three siblings, Marion Mayberg, St. Angeles, Wash., Muriel Thorson, Cashmere, Wash., and Sally Doherty, Lacey; and two grandchildren.
