Scouting news

Several Scouts and Scouters from Pelathe District received awards at the 2004 Scout Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Kansas City, Kan. Scout Mass is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Kansas City, and Archbishop Keleher presided. The following Boy Scouts from Lawrence earned the Ad Altari Dei (Catholic Scouting Religious Medal): Michael Bennett, Troop 53; Bryant Denning, Troop 55, of Corpus Christi parish; and Stephen Howe, Troop 55, of St. John the Evangelist parish. The Bronze Pelican Award for adult service to Scouting within the Catholic community was given to Paul Clark, Pack 3057; Michelle Mailand, Troop 52; Jean Pfeifer, Pack 3057, and Harry Smith, Troop 52, all members of St. John the Evangelist parish.

  • Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, had a campout April 16-18 at the Mine Creek Battlefield. Brandon Mailand, Justin Deaver, Henry Reiske, Michael Smith, Stephen Wilson, Tristan Wagner, Mason McCurdy and David Long all earned the Paul Bunyon Woodsman Award.

Scouts who attended were Stefan Kuczera, Brandon Mailand, Alek Joyce, Tyler Denny, Justin Deaver, Doug Rawlings, Brendon Golledge, Dom Reiske, Henry Reiske, Michael Smith, Stephen Wilson, Jeron Brynds, Justin Stearns, Ben Bartels, Nick Joseph, Tristan Wagner, Mason McCurdy, Wesley Tedlock, Chad Boyd, Matt Fish, Andrew Denny, Eric Long, David Long and Devin Shoemaker. They were accompanied by Rowley Tedlock, Scoutmaster, and adult leaders Harry Smith, Richard Rawlings, Nancy Wilson, Wayne Deaver, Glen Sharp, Jim Joyce, Chris Golledge, Sue Reiske and Bruce Wagner.
