Cash, Shock edge Mystics
Washington ? Swin Cash had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Detroit Shock spoiled Chamique Holdsclaw’s return to the lineup with a 73-65 victory over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
Alana Beard led the Mystics with 20 points. Holdsclaw, the WNBA’s second-leading scorer, missed five days for personal and medical reasons. She looked rusty, going 3-of-13 from the field for 12 points.
Deanna Nolan had 13 points, and Barbara Farris added 11 for the Shock, who ended a five-game road losing streak. Detroit (12-13) hadn’t won a road game since beating Charlotte on June 23.
Sting 63, Fever 53
Indianapolis — Rookie reserve Nicole Powell scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Charlotte past Indiana. Allison Feaster and Tammy Sutton-Brown also had 14 points for the Sting (12-11) as Indiana lost its fifth consecutive game. Sutton-Brown also contributed six blocked shots.
Lynx 66, Silver Stars 53
Minneapolis — Tamika Williams scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack, and Minnesota defeated San Antonio. Both teams were without their Olympians — Minnesota’s Katie Smith and San Antonio’s Shannon Johnson each sat out because of knee injuries.
