Zona Belinda Smith

Graveside services for Zona Belinda Smith, 93, Lawrence, will be private.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born April 19, 1911, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of George and Ellen Smith Wilson. She graduated from Emporia High School and Emporia State Teacher’s College.

Mrs. Smith had lived in Lawrence since 1947. She was a high school English teacher in Newton and Marion. She taught homebound and special-needs children, and she taught in the Adult Basic Education program. She was also an editor of her husband’s textbooks, and a homemaker.

Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of the Ladies’ Literary League.

She married Henry P. Smith on June 13, 1934, in Sedan. He died April 23, 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue E. Fulcher, Eudora; two sons, George L. Smith, Shawnee, and Judson G. Smith, Perry; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today at the home of Sue Fulcher .

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or the Lawrence Humane Society, in care of Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
