Red Raiders fall to CU, 85-75; 'Cats clip Huskers

? Texas Tech never did have an answer for Colorado’s 7-foot center, David Harrison.

Harrison had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Michel Morandais added 22 points, and Colorado beat No. 22 Texas Tech, 85-75, Wednesday night.

Harrison also had seven blocked shots, two assists and a steal.

“Harrison hurt us,” Texas Tech coach Bob Knight said. “He played really well. This was as good as I’ve seen him play.”

“I was just shooting shots and they went in,” Harrison said. “(Tech forward Robert) Tomaszek was playing really hard in there. He was forcing me out of the low block and making me shoot turnaround jumpers instead of my jump hook.”

Colorado (14-8, 6-5 Big 12 Conference) used runs of 9-2 and 15-6 to hold off the Red Raiders in the second half.

Texas Tech (18-7, 6-5) was led by Devonne Giles with 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Andre Emmett, who scored 16. The Red Raiders have lost five of their last seven games.

Emmett entered the game needing 19 points to tie the Big 12 career scoring record, held by Kansas University’s Nick Collison at 2,097.

“Our guys were determined not to let him get the record at Colorado,” Buffaloes coach Ricardo Patton said. “To do that, you have to have some pride in your defense, and I think we had that tonight. We wanted to make sure that any time he put the ball on the floor that we double-teamed and even triple-teamed him.”

No. 11 Texas 77,

Texas A&M 57

Austin, Texas — Brandon Mouton scored 20 points, and Kenny Taylor hit four three-pointers in the key second-half run. Texas hit just one three-pointer before Taylor’s shots, and the Longhorns (18-4, 9-2 Big 12) turned a tight game with the Aggies (7-15, 0-11) into an easy win. Jesse King had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead A&M, which has lost 11 straight to fuel speculation that coach Melvin Watkins’ job is on the line.

Kansas State 63,

Nebraska 58

Lincoln, Neb. — Tim Ellis tipped in a missed free throw with 2.6 seconds remaining and then hit four free throws with one-tenth of a second left for Kansas State (12-10, 4-7 Big 12). The win broke a 16-game road losing streak for the Wildcats. KSU also had lost 21 consecutive Big 12 games since a 72-67 win March 3, 2001, at Colorado. After Ellis tipped in the missed free throw, Nebraska coach Barry Collier was called for a technical foul just as Ellis was fouled. That gave Ellis four free-throws with less than a second remaining.

Missouri 82, Iowa State 70

Columbia, Mo. — Arthur Johnson had 16 points, 11 rebounds and three steals to lead Missouri as the Tigers continued their second-half surge. Jimmy McKinney had 21 points and Rickey Paulding 19 for Missouri (12-10, 6-5 Big 12), which has won three in a row for the first time since opening the season with victories over Oakland, Coppin State and Indiana.
