Clinic a success

To the editor:

On behalf of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, I want to thank the Kansas University and Douglas County communities, both volunteers and patrons, for a successful mass-dispensing clinic for flu shots Dec. 12 at Allen Fieldhouse.

This time of the year is incredibly hectic in everyone’s lives, and we especially appreciate the volunteers who gave up a majority of their Sunday during the holiday season to help distribute flu shots to those in the Centers for Disease Control’s priority groups this influenza season. Most importantly, we were able to administer 604 flu shots.

This mass-distribution clinic could not have run as smoothly without our co-sponsor, Student Health Services at KU, which was able to secure 1,250 doses of vaccine to sell to the health department. Student Health Services also helped recruit volunteers and donated wheelchairs for the event. Other community partners who deserve thanks include the Red Cross, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical, Kansas Golf Assn., Advanced Home Care, Lawrence Medical Equipment, Medical Arts Pharmacy, Criticare, Douglas County Disaster Mental Health Team, Johnson County Health Department and the KU Athletic Department.

Thanks again to those who donated their time and effort for this mass-dispensing clinic.
