Olathe ? Free State goalkeeper Megan Hrenchir made eight saves Thursday, and the Firebirds’ girls soccer team managed a 1-1, double-overtime tie with Olathe Northwest at Olathe District Activities Center.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Free State’s Lucca Wang scored five minutes into the second half off an assist from Rebekah Berkley.

“It was a back-and-forth battle,” Free State coach Jason Pendleton said. “We played another 55 minutes and had some good chances. We had some breakaways. They had some good goaltending. We were fortunate they hit the crossbar once in overtime. More importantly, we played a lot better than we had the last few games.”

Free State (0-2-1) will play Shawnee Mission North on Tuesday at Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex.
