Lied Center sponsors western Kansas residency

The Lied Center is partnering with Aquila to present a statewide education residency project with classical guitarist Robert Bluestone.

Playing music from four centuries and four continents, Bluestone has earned a reputation as one of classical guitar’s top international players. He will complete a vigorous schedule of residency work today through March 9 in western Kansas, specifically Garden City and Liberal.

After receiving his master’s degree in music from Eastern Michigan University, Bluestone studied with the eminent Argentinean guitarist Manuel Lopez Ramos at the Instituto de Arte Guitarristico in Mexico City. While there, he became the first foreign virtuoso ever to join the staff. In 1979, he received a full scholarship to study and perform at the Andre Segovia Master Class in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Bluestone is able to make residency presentations in English or Spanish.

This season, the Lied Center also presented statewide residency work from Ragamala Music and Dance Theater in Wichita. Last season, The Hutchins Consort participated in residency activities in Minneapolis, Kan. During the 2000/2001 season, DRAK Puppet Theatre from the Czech Republic held educational activities in Wilson.
