Harbour advances

? Seven of the top nine seeds were eliminated, including six in the first round, as match play began Thursday in the Kansas Amateur Championship at Indian Hills Country Club.

The only survivors out of the top nine seeds are fourth-seeded Casey Harbour, a former Kansas University golfer, and fifth-seeded Chris Mabry, who plays for the University of Missouri. Both won their second-round matches 1 up.

Hutchinson’s Kirk Holmberg ousted top-seeded Jesse Schulte 2 and 1 in the first round. Holmberg was beaten 2 up by Olathe’s Tyler Cummins in the second round.

Second seed Judd Easterling, a Wichita State junior, won his first-round match before losing to Garden City’s Sean Thayer 2 and 1 in the second round.

The tournament’s third round and quarterfinals will take place today.
