Thunderstorms in forecast for afternoon

If you’re tired of all the blistering hot weather, good news is in store for Wednesday evening — there’s a strong chance of thunderstorms rolling through, bringing rain and cooler weather.

“There’s an 80 percent chance we’re goiing to get storms,” Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist said shortly before 5 p.m. Thunderstorms were between Salina and Manhattan in the late afternoon and were moving toward the Lawrence area.

Some of the thunderstorms could be severe, bringing winds up to 70 mph, Janssen said.

“Rainfall amounts could range from a quarter of an inch to as much as three-quarters,” he said.

The rain will be out of the area by about 10 p.m., with cooler and dryer air coming in behind. The overnight low will drop to 64, he said.

Thursday’s high will reach 88, with much lower humidity levels, he said. Thursday’s overnight skies will be mostly clear, with the low dropping to 65.

Friday’s high will be 90 with mostly cloudy skies and possibly some light rain.
