Fonda withdraws donation

Boston — Actress Jane Fonda withdrew her $12.5 million donation to the Harvard Graduate School of Education, derailing plans to establish a research center to study gender in education.

Fonda will withhold the balance of her donation, roughly half, and the unused portion of her initial contribution will be returned to her. School officials declined to say how much of it is left.

The Boston Globe quoted unidentified Fonda associates as saying the actress was frustrated with the university’s handling of her 2001 bequest, the largest single gift in the graduate school’s 83-year history. She felt the school was being slow in finding someone to head the center, the newspaper quoted sources as saying.

Poundstone probation relaxed

Santa Monica, Calif. — A judge has eased terms of probation for comedian Paula Poundstone, who in December regained full custody of three adopted children she lost after pleading no contest to child endangerment.

Superior Court Judge Bernard Kamins reduced Poundstone’s psychological counseling sessions from four to two a month and her Alcoholics Anonymous meetings from three to two a week.

Poundstone, 43, pleaded no contest in September 2001 to one felony count of child endangerment and misdemeanor infliction of injury on a child. The endangerment charge involved driving drunk with children in her car.

Poundstone was sentenced to 180 days at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, plus five years of probation. Her children range in age from 4 to 11.

Schwarzenegger shoulders pain

Santa Monica, Calif. — The Terminator is on the road to recovery.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was upbeat Friday after undergoing surgery for a shoulder injury, a torn rotator cuff, suffered while performing a motorcycle stunt for his upcoming movie “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.”

The 55-year-old star was injured last fall but decided to put off surgery so he wouldn’t hold up filming. He was admitted to St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica on Wednesday and released Thursday.

“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” is scheduled for release July 2. The film also stars Nick Stahl and Claire Danes.

Snipes sued for nonpayment

Orlando, Fla. — Actor Wesley Snipes has been sued for the second time in two years for allegedly failing to make mortgage payments on his 10,000-square-foot mansion in the gated community of Isleworth.

The lawsuit, filed last month in Orange County Circuit Court by Chase Manhattan Mortgage Corp., said Snipes defaulted on his payments last October and owes the bank almost $609,000.

The bank also sued Snipes in February 2001, also for allegedly failing to make mortgage payments. The case was dropped after payments were made.

The mansion was purchased in 1993 for more than $1 million.
