Showers expected by afternoon in Lawrence

The morning’s cold, purple skies out west are expected to bring rain by Wednesday afternoon to Lawrence.

“It’s dark and cold,” Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist said about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

“The rain is just at our doorsteps right now,” Makens said. “We’ll see periods of rain and light rain showers and we will stay cloudy throughout the rest of the day.”

Today’s temperatures will get up into the 40s, with a high of 49, “and that may be a bit optimistic,” he said.

Wednesday’s showers will last until the early evening. Skies will continue to be be cloudy overnight, with the ow dropping to 34, he said.

Wednesday morning’s low dropped to 28, which broke the old record of 29 for this date set in 1943.

Thursday’s skies will be sunny, with a high of 56.

“We could have another 30 percent chance for rain Friday evening into Saturday morning,” he said. “So the high school games and the KU game could have some weather to deal with.”
