Ellen Johnson and Shauna Tubbs each have received a Dean’s Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design. The merit scholarship was awarded as a result of an art portfolio competition at the college, which was judged by a team of CCAD faculty members.

Johnson, a Lawrence High School senior, will begin her studies this fall and plans to major in interior design. She is the daughter of Teresa Arevalo and William Johnson, both of Lawrence. She is the student of art instructor Pat Nemchock.

Tubbs, a senior at Free State High School, will begin her studies this fall. She is the daughter of Penny Tubbs, Lawrence. She is the student of art instructor Carolyn Berry.

Woody Jimboy and Michelle Cooper, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., announce the birth of their son, Alex Parker Jimboy, born May 1, 2002, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He joins siblings Caitlin, Keith, Austin and Allysen.

Grandparents are Mel and Ellen Cooper, Anchorage, Alaska; Wayne and Charlene Jimboy, Lawrence; and Buna Taylor, Lawrence. Great-grandmother is Elaine Eytchison, Indianapolis.

Kevin and Gaia Schellman, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, William James Schellman, born May 3, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park.

Grandparents are Debora Archer, Lawrence; James Charles, Los Alamos, N.M.; and Mark and Elizabeth Schellman, Lawrence.

Christopher Wilkins, a 1998 graduate of Lawrence High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He also received a certificate of Graduation with Distinction from the department of history, The William T. LaPrade Award for his thesis: “Guarding the Guardians: The Church Committee and American Foreign Policy, 1974-1976,” and the Angier B. Duke Memorial scholarship. He is the son of Dirk and Ginger Wilkins, Lawrence.

There will be a piano recital at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, 1429 Kasold Drive. Highland Community College announces its 2002 area graduates. They are Tricia Henry and Cristy Schneider, Meriden; Joshua Prochnow, Ottawa; Ashley Robinson and Harvey Wilson III, Pomona; and Candace Carty, Mitchel Flewelling and Rachel Walker, Tonganoxie.

Linda Berger, Lawrence, and Tami Willhite, Valley Falls, will each receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing today from Washburn University’s School of Nursing in Topeka.

Christopher Metzler, Lawrence, received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y.

Ben Jensen, Lawrence, received the Aleta J. Matthews Endowed Scholarship at the annual Sterling College Awards Convocation. Jensen is the son of Timothy and Cynthia Jensen.

Michael Mosenfelder, DeSoto, was named to the President’s Honor Roll at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., for the 2002 spring semester by earning a 4.0 grade point average.

Matthew Nielsen, Lawrence, will be awarded a doctorate of medicine Thursday at The John Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Nielsen will intern at John Hopkins Hospital.

Melissa Dray, Lawrence, has graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma City University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree.
