She was born July 19, 1929, in Atchison, the daughter of James Claudius and Lillie Mae (Bryan) Raybern Sr. She grew up in Atchison. She attended school in Atchison and California. She had moved to Lawrence three months ago from Walnut.

She married Pat Byers on July 2, 1953, in Atchison. He died Feb. 28, 1999.

Survivors include seven sisters, Lorene Martin, Atchison, Elsie Bunney, Denton, Md., Susan Crawford, Eudora, Catherine Goetler, Rockton, Ill., Sharon Raybern, Donna Bagby and Geraldine Thomas, all of Lawrence; and two brothers, Charles Raybern, Missouri, and Gerald Raybern, Topeka.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
