WNBA: Williams’ double-double lifts Mercury

? Adrain Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Phoenix Mercury snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Minnesota Lynx 57-45 Monday night.

Jaynetta Saunders scored a career-high 12 points, and Jennifer Gillom had 10 for the Mercury (9-16), who have lost a WNBA-record 18 straight road games but improved to 9-4 at home.

Minnesota (7-18) has lost 11 straight road games, one short of Phoenix’s 0-12 record this season.

Svetlana Abrosimova had 13 points, and Michele Van Gorp added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lynx. But Katie Smith, who set seven WNBA season scoring records last year and had 19 points in a loss at Sacramento the previous night, made only one of 15 field goals and tied her career-low with two points in 35 minutes.

Saunders and Lisa Harrison took turns guarding Smith, who didn’t score until she made a layup with 1:41 to play, cutting Minnesota’s deficit to 53-43.

The Lynx made an all-out effort to snap their road skid in the first half, jumping ahead 16-2 on a turnaround by Van Gorp 5:01 in.

But the Mercury battled back and took a 26-25 lead on a layup by Adriana Moises with 40.7 to play in the first half.
