Vera Rose Stencel

Vinland Services for Vera Rose Stencel, 69, Baldwin, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vinland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Vinland Cemetery.

Mrs. Stencel died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 8, 1932, in rural Douglas County, the daughter of William and Cecil Irene (Schultz) Chanay. She grew up in rural Douglas County, attended Vinland Grade School and graduated from Vinland High School in 1950.

In 1962, she moved to Olathe, where she began working at Olathe Chamber of Commerce in 1967 as a bookkeeper and secretary until 1976. In 1976, she moved back to the Vinland community.

She was a member of Vinland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Fisher, Baldwin, and Marcia Williamson, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Tony Stencel, Warner Robins, Ga.; a brother, Duane Chanay, Moline, Ill., and a sister, Diane Purvis, Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Baldwin, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.
