Jane E. Kemp

? Services for Jane E. Kemp, 63, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka. Burial and graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Paola Cemetery.

Mrs. Kemp died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at her son’s home in Lawrence.

She was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Wichita, the daughter of Robert H. and Dorothy E. (Barrett) Maxwell. She was raised in Wichita and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1957. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1962 with degrees in home economics and nutrition.

She had lived in Topeka since 1963.

Mrs. Kemp was a founder of Head Start in Topeka and of Success by Six. She also founded Early Childhood Directors Network. She was an agency member for Greater Topeka United Way since 1990 and a community leader in 4-H in Shawnee County. She was executive director of Lakeshore Learning Centers in Topeka and was involved in the direction and operation of day-care centers in Topeka for more than 40 years.

She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and Northland Christian Church in Topeka.

She married Bill Kemp in 1962 in Wichita. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Cathy Howell, Topeka; a son, Jim Kemp, Lawrence; a brother, John Maxwell, Wichita; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
