Kansas stamp honors familiar images of sunflowers, amber waves of wheat
Topeka ? A new postage stamp honoring Kansas features images traditionally associated with the state, including a combine harvesting amber waves of wheat.
The U.S. Postal Service on Thursday unveiled a series of 34-cent stamps with images of all 50 states.

Gov. Bill Graves, right, looks at a poster of a postage stamp that commemorates Kansas. He unveiled it with Sam Gonzales, left, manager of post office operations in Kansas on Thursday at the Statehouse in Topeka. The stamp can be purchased at post offices on a sheet of stamps that feature all 50 states.
Kansas’ version was presented at a Statehouse ceremony attended by Gov. Bill Graves and Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., whose mother and grandfather were rural mail carriers.
Both were pleased with the design, which features the combine in front of a grain elevator, with two sunflowers in the foreground.
The state’s name is printed in blue letters with red trim the colors of Kansas University and casts a shadow in Kansas State University purple.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of Kansans collecting these stamps,” Brownback said.
