FRIDAY, JULY 7

• Need to stock up on summertime reading and listening options? Come to the Summer Book Sale hosted by the Lawrence Public Library Friends & Foundation. All books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks are priced at $2 or less; see https://lplks.org/book-sales/ for categories and price lists. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today and Saturday; noon-4 p.m. Sunday. The library is located at 707 Vermont St. – please enter the sale on the Kentucky St. side of the building.

• The Lawrence Arts Center invites the public to step into the cool galleries at 940 New Hampshire St. and view the current art exhibits which opened in June and will run through July 22:

· Kathy Suprenant’s “Lens as a Metaphor”

· Twiggy Boden, “A Pig is Still A Pig”

· John Hulsey, “Transcendence: Truth in Nature”

The galleries are open daily, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

• Clinton Marina hosts today’s “Float Local Friday,” a family-friendly event from 5:30-9 p.m., 1329 E. 800 Rd. Live music from Unfit Wives and Stranded in the City, food trucks, cool beverages, a bounce house and a mini golf course.

SATURDAY, JULY 8

• The Jayhawk Audubon Society invites you to a field trip to the Baker Wetlands for a chance to view several species of birds and other wildlife. The wetlands are located at 1365 N. 1250 Rd.; meet at the southwest parking lot for the 7:30 a.m. start. The group will walk the River Trail to the center road. • City PlayCorps will be offering a Pop Up Adventure Playground at today’s Lawrence Farmers Market, 824 New Hampshire St., 7:30-11:30 a.m. Bring your children for unstructured independent play with boxes, tires, tubes and many other materials. Can’t make this morning’s pop-up? The playground will make another appearance on Monday, July 10, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

• Members of the public are invited to the School Board Candidates Panel Seminar this morning at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Meet at 9:30 a.m. for networking; the panel will begin at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Douglas County Democratic Party; all candidates have been invited to participate.

• The NAACP is holding a primary candidate forum for both City Commission and school board races in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. City commission candidates will hold a forum from 1:30-2:30 p.m., with a half-hour informal visit after. At 3 p.m., the school board candidates will hold their panel, followed by an informal visit with members of the public from 4-4:30 p.m.

• Women of all musical genres, skill levels and instruments (including voice) are welcome at today’s Lawrence Women’s Jam, 1-2:30 p.m. at Americana Music Academy, 1419 Massachusetts St. Bring songs to share, or just jam along in this relaxed, supportive environment. • The Shenago Lounge, 1520 Wakarusa Dr., hosts a birthday party and fundraiser tonight for Operation Wildlife, a local wild animal rescue supported by volunteers and private donations. Silent auction, bake sale, contests and much more, beginning at 9:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, JULY 9

• The Lawrence Public Library’s monthly Repair Studio opens again today, 2-4 p.m., 707 Vermont St. Bring your broken, torn or not-working items and meet with a Repair Mentor to troubleshoot and experiment. Results not guaranteed, but you’ll have fun tinkering. No registration required.

• Storyteller Priscilla Howe invites all ages for stories, songs, puppets and more at her summertime series, Sundays at 6:30 p.m. through July. Bring chairs and blankets, as well as snacks and beverages if desired. Mosquito repellent is also recommended. 415 Elm St. If it is raining, the event will not be held.

• Members of the public are invited to the weekly “Concerts at the Campanile,” 5-6 p.m. on the KU campus. This free concert by University Carillonist Dr. Elizabeth Egbert Berghout is performed on the 53 bronze bells housed in the historic tower atop Campanile Hill. Listeners are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12

• There are just two chances remaining to see the Lawrence City Band summer concert series in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St. Tonight’s offering at 8 p.m. features the theme “Americana.” Bring your blankets and lawn chairs for this free event. In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Dr.
