Gary Hatfield

Gary L Hatfield passed away on February 17th, 2024, in Scottsdale, AZ.

Gary was born in Lawrence, KS on October 22nd, 1938. His parents were W.W. (Willie) and Hazel Hatfield. Gary graduated from LHS in 1957. He then went to Pittsburg State University on a football scholarship. While at PSU, he married Beverly Roach on December 21st, 1961. While there, he played on 2 National Championship teams. After graduation, Gary had a 22 year career in the army. This included two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Gary retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In service to his country, Gary received several awards. Included were two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and two Bronze Star Medals. In addition, he was elected into his university's Military Hall of Fame. Gary retired to Sacramento, CA and Scottsdale, AZ. He spent another 25 years in the real estate field.

Gary was a very kind and giving person. He was always ready to help his beloved family or any friend. Both family and friends were dear to him. He was always ready to help others. Gary leaves behind his wife Beverly, son, Tom, (Laurie), daughter, Susan, (Walt), and son, Mike, brother, Larry, (Teri), and brother-in-law, Pete Roach, (Lana). He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, David and Terry. Gary's many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly miss him. A Celebration of Life was held in Scottsdale, AZ. Gary will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
