Elizabeth Barnes

Lawrence – Elizabeth Mae Barnes, 73, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on October 5, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Cunningham) Burton.

Elizabeth had been in the Lawrence community most of her life and had lived in Baldwin City for the last few years.

Elizabeth was a cook at the Wagon Wheel Cafe in Lawrence for 22 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Lawrence.

On November 26, 1964, Elizabeth was united in marriage to John E. Barnes in Lawrence, Kansas. To this union three children were born, Roy, Mary and Kathryn.

Elizabeth was preceded by her husband John on November 25, 2010; by her parents, Roy and Mary; by a brother, Oscar Burton; by a sister, Shirley McNear; and a grandson, James.

Elizabeth is survived by her three children, Roy (Cathy) Barnes of Overbrook, Mary (Chris) Gilby of Gardner and Kathryn Barnes of Pomona; her brother, Robert Burton; her two sisters, Janice Thompson of Warsaw, Missouri and Patricia Barnes of Lawrence; her eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services for Elizabeth will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, September 17 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery on the north side of Lake Pomona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Barnes Memorial Fund, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
