Herbert Stone

Funeral services for Herbert Lynn Stone, 83, Eudora will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at River City Church (formerly Lawrence Free Methodist). Burial will follow at Hesper Cemetery in Eudora, KS. He passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 in Lawrence, KS.

Herb was born March 11, 1937 in Stanley, KS, the son of Gilbert and Mildred (Howell) Stone.

Herb attended a one room school in Johnson County, KS. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, serving in Fort Hood, Texas. When he joined the workforce he moved to Eudora, KS where he lived the rest of his life. He worked for 26 years at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence, KS during which time he also ran a small family farm. He loved sports and delighted in watching his son and nephews participate in sports, and later his grandchildren. Herb attended Lawrence Free Methodist Church with his family for the past 30 years.

He married Ruth Coleman on June 27, 1971 in Gardner, KS who preceded him in death in 2018.

Survivors include his son, Roger (Evangeline) Stone; two grandchildren; Mika Stone and Daniel Stone. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William, Robert, and Gilbert; and three sisters, Grace (Shoemaker), Mary, and Helen (Terrell).

The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora.
