Dorothy Rissman

Dorothy Rissman passed away August 23, 2018, in Lawrence Kansas. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas February 9, 1944, to James and Lois Rissman. She grew up in Lawrence, graduating from Lawrence High in 1962. Dorothy attended KU and received a bachelors degree from Wichita State University where she also did graduate studies. She returned to Lawrence in 2013.

Dorothy spent most of her life as a professional artist. From the beginning she derived a special satisfaction from solving problems, experimenting with materials, and expressing unique ideas. One signi?cant body of work was about the birds she fed and loved. Her love of animals extended to her rescued herd of 3 dogs and 6 cats.

She participated in over 60 solo and small groups shows in the United States. In 1998 she was part a four person exhibit in Tokyo, Japan. She has been represented by galleries in Phoenix/ Scottsdale, Santa Fe, San Francisco, Portland, Denver and Seattle. Her collectors include: Emprise Bank, Bezos Family Foundation, Neimen Marcus, Phoenix Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Nelson Museum of Art (ASU), Westin Hotels, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Swedish Hospital, The Breast Cancer Center (Phoenix), Nordstrom, AT&T Corporation, and Arizona Foundation for Blind Children. Dorothy is survived by her husband Benton Peugh, her son Christian Jaillite and family, her sisters; Diana Myers and family and Linda Rissman and family; her step children Thorin Peugh and family and Jordon Peugh and family.
