William M. Vervynck

Memorial services for William “Bill” M. Vervynck, 75, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 1, 2017 at WarrenMcElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. He passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at The University of Kansas Medical Center. Bill was born August 31, 1942 in Burns, Kansas the son of John and Edna (Hayden) Vervynck. Bill and his family moved to Lawrence in 1957. Bill graduated from Lawrence High School in 1960 and married Bernice Sarlls on January 13, 1962 in Eudora, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Scott (Elizabeth) Vervynck, Laguna Hills, CA; Ken (Theresa) Vervynck, Baldwin, City, KS; sister, Edith Morris, Topeka, KS; two grandchildren, Rusty (Amy) and Brandy, and two greatgrandchildren, Madison and Bristol, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Vervynck. Bill was a sheet metal mechanic for Hopkins Sheet Metal for 30 years and retired in 2002. He was a car enthusiast, all of his stories would start with what make and model of the car or truck. Bill, Bernice and their boys spent most of their Saturday nights at the Lawrence Dragway, they belonged to River City Cruisers of Douglas County where they won numerous trophies and plaques truly his passion, and his source of happiness.
