Evan Henke

Evan James Henke passed away January 4, 2014 at his home in Yorktown, VA after fighting a courageous battle with osteosarcoma. Evan was born on March 21, 1989 at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was a native of Yorktown, but lived in Richmond, VA for the past 4 years attending VCU. Evan was pursuing a Masters of Education and enjoying the study of history there. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Evan enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping, playing guitar and treasured time spent with friends and family. The light of his life was his son, Noah, who he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Reva Irick, Baldwin City, KS; grandfathers, Robert Henke, Akron, OH, and James Irick, Baldwin City, KS.
Evan is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Rebecca Henke, Yorktown; son, Noah, Richmond; sister, Sarah Henke, Yorktown; brother, Justin Henke, Newport News; grandmother, Marilyn Henke, Akron, OH; aunts and uncles, Patty and Jim Irick and Gary Irick, Baldwin City, KS, Larry Irick and Janelle Ballew, Lawrence, KS, Sue and Chris Henke, Marshall, MI, Ryan Henke, Akron, OH, Kathy and Dru Henke, Evanston, IL; cousins, Silas, Tristan, Rowan, Elias and Zoe Henke, Kevin Ballew, Andrea Haas, Christopher Irick and Thomas Irick.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Kimberly Schlesinger for her devotion to Evan’s care. Thank you to the many physicians and nurses who were dedicated to Evan’s care, notably Riverside Hospice, 5West and the OICU at Riverside Hospital.
There will be a visitation at Peninsula Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St Luke’s United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
