Orin W. Turner

Orin W. Turner, 69, Ozawkie, a retired Captain of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dept., died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born August 29, 1943 at Leavenworth, the son of Walter Amasa and Lulu Ellen Wendorff Turner. A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, he was a 1961 graduate of McLouth High School and attended Pittsburg State University. He earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Highland Junior College in 1988. Orin served over 30 years as a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy and Under Sheriff. He retired as Captain of the Department in 2002 after spending years handling child abuse cases for the Department. He had also worked for Jefferson County E.M.S. and served as a volunteer fireman in McLouth. He was married to Joyce Marlene Anderson on December 20, 1973 at McLouth, she survives at the home in Ozawkie. He is also survived by one son, Patrick (Susan) Brooks, Lawrence, one daughter Kelly Fangohr, Oskaloosa, one brother, Howard Turner, Kansas City, MO., three sisters, Vesta Kaufman, Hillsboro, OR., Wanda Harker, Mclouth, Myrna Ellsworth, McLouth, four grandchildren, Mariah (Andrew) Dinger, Valley Falls, Turner Brooks, Lawrence, Mikayla Fangohr, Oskaloosa, Thomas Brooks, Lawrence, two great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Dinger, and Brooklyn Dinger, both of Valley Falls. He was preceded in death by five sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa (1220 Walnut St./U.S. Hwy 59). Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, northwest of Oskaloosa. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
