Thirteen years after meeting in their 4th grade classroom, Aileen Gordy Berquist and Adam Patrick Weigel rediscovered each other while working for Headquarters Counseling Center in Lawrence, KS. Adam proposed to Aileen while she was flying a plane over Clinton Lake, after which the couple took separate flights to different corners of the world to pursue their interests in public service and exploring different cultures. Aileen is a Peace Corps volunteer working with at risk youth in rural Africa to reduce the rates of HIV/AIDS transmission and promote Life Skills. Adam is teaching English at a school in the Patagonia region of Chile. After their tours have ended, the couple will pursue further education in Bilingual and Bicultural Education and plan to work with immigrant populations in the United States. Aileen is the daughter of Dr. Kent and Dena Berquist, and Adam is the son of Maure and Theresa Weigel and grandson of Margene and Harris Clark.
